Sonda NOX – what is it used for in a car and what does it do?
If an orange Engine warning light appears on your display or instrument cluster, it may indicate a failure of the Sonda Lambda NOX. This occurs, among others, in BMW and Mercedes.
Below we present photos of exactly this fault in BMW 5 E60 E61 and F10 F11 F07 cars.
Considering that the engine light can also signal other problems, computer diagnostics are essential. If the service determines that the errors indicate a damaged NOX sensor, it must be replaced.
As a rule, sensors should be replaced in pairs.
In our offer you will find new original NOX sensors for BMW, Mercedes, Audi and VW cars.

NOX, i.e. nitrogen oxides, are harmful to human health and the atmosphere of our planet. They are formed, among other things, in the process of fuel combustion in the engine and are then expelled through the exhaust system.
NOX sensors are intended to reduce the emission of harmful substances at the final exhaust stage — this is what automotive corporations suggest, but is that really the case? Hmm… 🙂
The NOX sensor is mounted directly in the exhaust system — at the beginning and at the end of the exhaust path.
Below is a photo of what it looks like:

The sensor is used for continuous measurement of NOX (nitrogen oxides) content in vehicle exhaust gases.
Then the sensor sends information to the engine control unit. Based on the information received, the controller adjusts engine operation and other components (e.g., Ad Blue dosing) so that the emitted exhaust gases contain as few harmful NOX components as possible.
What if it fails?
In such a failure, the engine does not receive a mixture with a reduced composition — in other words, not the dose it should get 🙁
The result may be an incorrect exhaust composition, increased fuel consumption, problems with correct engine operation, and issues with the DPF and catalytic converter.
